At the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Ranbir Kapoor shared an unexpected anecdote about his wife, Alia Bhatt, that quickly went viral.
According to a report by Indian Express, during an interview with filmmaker Rahul Rawail, Ranbir reflected on Bollywood’s musical legacy and recounted their first meeting. In his story, Alia had asked, “Who’s Kishore Kumar?” The revelation left the audience stunned, with one attendee exclaiming, “Are you serious?”
Ranbir acknowledged the generational shift in cultural knowledge, saying, “It’s just the circle of life… It’s important to remember our roots.” His comment, however, sparked widespread online reactions. Fans expressed disbelief, with one writing, “Not knowing Kishore Kumar is worse. He’s the biggest male singer in Bollywood history.” Others criticized Ranbir for sharing the story, accusing him of publicly embarrassing Alia.
This isn’t the first time Alia has faced trolling. Back in 2013, during her debut on Koffee with Karan, she incorrectly identified Prithviraj Chauhan as India’s president. This slip-up became a viral moment, leading to a flood of memes mocking her general knowledge.
Ranbir, too, has faced backlash for comments about their relationship. One notable instance involved Alia’s admission that she removes her lipstick because Ranbir prefers a minimal look. This observation sparked debate online, with some fans questioning his influence on her personal choices.
The latest anecdote at IFFI adds to a history of public scrutiny faced by the couple. Both Alia and Ranbir, despite their immense popularity, often find themselves at the center of debates around personal choices and public statements.
