A sniffer dog from the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) was shot dead at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi after it wandered into the bay area.
According to a spokesperson from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCCA), the airside team attempted to capture the dog, but was ultimately forced to shoot it to prevent potential harm to aircraft operations. The dog was posing a risk to the aircraft in the designated bay area, where planes are parked.
The spokesperson explained that the airside team, following directives from the control tower, tried to capture the dog but was unsuccessful. Mistaking the dog for a stray, a CAA bird shooter fired at it after being alerted by the control tower during aircraft parking.
The dog was trained to detect drugs in aircraft and passenger luggage. Both CAA and ANF officials have initiated an investigation into the incident.
