Former President and GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump has returned to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, with a post questioning whether Americans are better off now than during his presidency.
Trump, who was barred from Twitter in 2021 but reinstated by the platform’s new owner Elon Musk in 2022, had only posted once since his reinstatement—when he shared his mug shot following his booking at Fulton County Jail in Georgia in August last year.
Twitter permanently suspended Trump’s account in January 2021, citing the risk of further incitement of violence after the storming of the U.S. Capitol. About a year later, Trump launched his own social media site, Truth Social, where he had been posting until his recent return to X.
In his Monday morning post, Trump wrote: “Are you better off now than you were when I was president? Our economy is shattered. Our border has been erased. We’re a nation in decline. Make the American Dream AFFORDABLE again. Make America SAFE again. Make America GREAT Again! #TrumpOnX.” The post garnered millions of views within hours.
The 2024 presidential election is scheduled for November 5.
