hoarding put up for a religious festival in Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu has sparked controversy after it featured a picture of former adult film star Mia Khalifa alongside deities.
The hoarding was erected for the ‘Adi’ festival, where devotees worship Goddess Amman (Parvati) in temples across Tamil Nadu. The festivities, which span several days, attract thousands of participants.
As part of the grand events, hoardings were put up at the Nagathaman and Seliamman temples in Koruvimalai. One such hoarding went viral after Mia Khalifa’s picture appeared alongside the deities.
Her image was edited to show her holding a ‘pal kudam’ (milk pot), a traditional offering during the festival. The individuals responsible for putting up the hoarding ensured their own pictures were also displayed, writing their names in the format of Aadhaar cards.
Following the viral spread of the hoarding image and the ensuing uproar, police arrived at the scene and removed the hoarding.
