Internet access in Pakistan was disrupted on a national scale, according to watchdog group NetBlocks, which monitors cybersecurity and internet governance.
“Reports from users indicate a widespread outage, which is supported by metrics showing national connectivity at 24% of typical levels,” stated a post on X.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) attributed the disruptions to a technical glitch, causing slow internet services and connectivity issues.
A spokesperson for Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) confirmed data outages in several cities. “Currently, the PTCL network is facing data outages in various cities, affecting connectivity,” the spokesperson said. PTCL teams are actively working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. “Our teams are busy addressing and rectifying the issue at the earliest,” the spokesperson added.
Users have reported difficulties accessing online services, with slow internet speeds impacting both personal and professional activities. PTCL has assured customers that efforts are underway to restore full service and minimize inconvenience.
The disruption has also affected the data services of mobile phone companies, causing issues with WhatsApp and other social media platforms. Consumers are experiencing significant problems accessing these apps.
