The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced its decision to align with the federal government’s policy on salary and pension increases for government employees. According to sources, employees in grades 1 to 16 will receive a 25% raise, while those in grades 17 to 22 will see a 20% increase.
Sources further indicate that the government has approved a 15% hike in pensions for retired government employees. However, the formal notification will be issued pending approval from the Cabinet.
This year marks a historic first for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the provincial government presented its annual budget ahead of the federal budget, owing to disagreements between the two governments.
In the new fiscal year budget, the provincial government has announced a 10% increase in salaries and pensions. Subsequently, the federal government announced a higher increase of 25% in salaries and 15% in pensions. Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan have also aligned with the federal government’s adjustments.
Following this, Chief Minister Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur faced pressure from government employees to bring the province’s salary adjustments in line with those of the federal and other provincial governments.
