The Jamaat-e-Islami announced on Monday that it will stage a sit-in on July 12 in the federal capital to protest the rise in taxes in the 2024-25 budget and the severe inflation.
During a news conference in Lahore, JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman Butt criticized the current administration for increasing taxes and electricity rates in the budget.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman underlined that many young Pakistanis are disillusioned with their country and are leaving in search of better opportunities abroad. He accused the current government of “occupying” power and plundering the nation’s resources.
Announcing the sit-in protest in Islamabad, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman urged the masses to come out of their homes and fight for their rights. He also called on the government to lower power tariffs and taxes.
Earlier, on June 16, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman pointed out that while the salaried class paid 360 billion rupees in taxes, the feudal lords contributed only four billion rupees.
