Pakistani athlete Muhammad Yasir clinched the silver medal at the second Asian Throwing Championship held in South Korea but he failed to qualify for this summer Paris Olympics.
The Asian Throwing Championships, an annual event showcasing athletes from Asian nations in track and field disciplines like javelin throw, discus throw, shot put, and hammer throw.
As per APP, Yasir secured second place behind Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga, who achieved an impressive 85.45 meters in javelin throw, while Yasir managed a distance of 78.10 meters.

Yasir will need to place in the top 32 globally when World Athletics releases the world rankings following June 30, which is the deadline for Olympic qualification, as he was unable to earn a direct berth for the Olympics in Paris.
After June 30, 2024—that is, between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024—the rankings will be made public. Only ten javelin throwers from around the globe have earned direct qualifying spots at the Olympics in Paris thus far.
The Pakistan Athletics Federation (PAF) extended their congratulations to Yasir and his coach, Syed Fayaz Hussain Bukhari, for their remarkable feat.
“PAF President Brig (R) Wajahat Hussain and Secretary General Col (R) Shahjahan Mir praised the dedication and hard work of the duo,” APP reported.
