Sheikh Maher Al Muaiqly, an imam at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, delivered the Hajj 2024 sermon at Masjid-e-Nimra on Saturday, calling for unity and cohesion among the Ummah.
Hundreds of thousands of Muslim pilgrims from around the world gathered at Maidan-e-Arafat on Saturday to perform “Waqoof-e-Arafat,” the pinnacle of Hajj.
Pilgrims from all over the world climbed the rocky, 70-meter (230-foot) hill, located about 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Makkah, where the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) delivered his final sermon.
With the desert summer heat expected to reach 43 degrees Celsius (109.4 degrees Fahrenheit), the day posed significant challenges, especially for the elderly.
In his sermon, Imam Sheikh Dr. Maher Al Muaiqly emphasized the importance of unity, stating that it would ensure the salvation of the Ummah and prevent discord and division.
He highlighted the importance of the testimonies that only Allah is to be worshipped and that Muhammad (PBUH) is Allah’s messenger.
“Muslims should exhibit the best manners, as only those with good conduct will be close to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) on the Day of Judgment,” Imam Sheikh Dr. Maher said.
He also reminded Muslims of their duty to pray regularly and to pay zakat to those in need.
Sheikh Maher Al Muaiqly affirmed that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is Allah’s Messenger, sent as a mercy to all worlds. Following the commands of Allah and His Messenger leads to success in this world and the hereafter.
He warned against alcohol and gambling, describing them as satanic acts.
The Imam also urged Muslims to keep Palestinians in their prayers.
He concluded by stressing the importance of respecting each other’s rights, avoiding unjust killings, and making decisions with justice.
For many Muslims, performing Hajj is a lifelong goal, and they are obligated to undertake the pilgrimage at least once if they are financially and physically able.
This year’s Hajj takes place amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza, following eight months of violence that remains a significant concern for many in the Muslim world.
