As Eid-ul-Adha approaches, the sale of sacrificial animals across the country is gaining momentum. However, this year, more people are opting for collective (Ijtamai) Qurbani as the prices of sacrificial animals have more than doubled compared to the previous year.
According to a report by the official news agency Associated Press of Pakistan (PPI), the prices of bulls in the market have surged from Rs 70,000 to Rs 150,000 per animal compared to last year. The price of A-category bulls has increased from Rs 200,000 to Rs 300,000 and above, while B-category bulls are now priced between Rs 100,000 to Rs 150,000. Similarly, prices of C-category bulls have risen from Rs 50,000 to Rs 100,000.
The prices of goats and sheep have also witnessed an increase of up to 50 percent. The price of A-category goats/sheep has risen from Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000, while B-category prices have increased from Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000, and C-category prices are now Rs 25,000 and above.
In the cattle market, goats and sheep were priced between Rs 65,000 to Rs 140,000, while bulls were recorded between Rs 300,000 to Rs 450,000.
A significant surge in the prices of sacrificial animals is observed nationwide, and the trend of ‘Ijtamai Qurbani’ is gaining popularity.
Due to the high prices of sacrificial animals, most people are opting for collective Qurbani rituals instead of individual sacrifices on Eid ul Azha, the report concluded.
