The Punjab government is contemplating the establishment of solar panel factories within the province, aiming to reinforce its solar panel policy. This potential move underscores the government’s dedication to expanding renewable energy infrastructure and fostering sustainable practices within the region.
Minister for Industry and Commerce Shafay Hussain has affirmed a strong commitment to promote the local manufacturing of solar panels in the region. During a meeting with a delegation from a Chinese solar company, the minister discussed the establishment of solar panel factories in Punjab – emphasizing the government’s keen interest in clean energy.
The minister also highlighted the eagerness of Chinese companies to invest in Punjab’s solar energy sector and the government’s commitment to providing them with the necessary support.
Pakistan also eyes to form long-term policies to encourage investment in the solar energy sector, noting that Chinese companies have expressed their willingness to invest, making this an opportune time for solar energy investment in Punjab.
Amid the speculations over the solar net-metering policy, Federal Minister for Energy Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari cleared the air that the government has no plans to end the which allows consumers to sell excess electricity generated by their solar systems.
Minister dismissed reports suggesting a shift to a new gross-metering mechanism, stressing the government’s commitment to promoting solar power, citing its initiation by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif.
He further assured that consumers with existing net-metering contracts would not be affected and that any policy changes would involve stakeholder consultation. He also addressed a drop in electricity demand and expressed hope for a plan to tackle power theft in KP.
