Arab countries announce Schengen-style visa In a landmark decision, six Gulf countries have unveiled plans to introduce a new tourist visa similar to the Schengen visa in Europe, allowing people to visit their countries without the need for multiple visas. Unhindered travel across borders will be allowed.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) made the announcement during its 40th ministerial meeting in Oman, revealing that the “grand visa” will be operational by the end of 2024.
Under this initiative, tourists will be free to visit Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Bahrain with a single visa. The aim of this initiative is to promote the development of tourism and enhance cooperation between these countries.
The new visa is expected to diversify sources of income for these countries, reducing dependence on oil-related sectors. Tourists holding a Grand Visa will be allowed a minimum stay of 30 days in participating Gulf countries.
Abdullah Al-Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, highlighted the unified vision of the GCC, emphasizing common market principles and integrated policies. He emphasized the benefits of uniform regulations in the tourism sector, promoting efficiency and supporting economic expansion.
The introduction of the Grand Visa is an important step towards facilitating seamless travel experiences and promoting deeper regional integration among the Gulf countries.
