Islamabad: The newly elected President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari will not take a salary for the position.
This was announced in a statement issued by the President House on Tuesday. The statement said that due to the financial crunch in the country, the president has decided not to receive his salary as head of the state.
Last year in a meeting of the Public Account Committee (PAC) it was disclosed that the basic salary of the President of Pakistan was Rs. 896,550 per month, while the Prime Minister received Rs. 201,574 per month
Moreover, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif also does not receive a salary as PM. Last year in a statement Shehbaz Sharif had clarified that he never drew salary or allowances as the prime minister or chief minister of Punjab.
He had also claimed that he always personally bore his travel and hotel expenses while being head of the federal and provincial governments.
It is also said about Nawaz Sharif that he had never received a salary as Prime Minister of Pakistan. Many lawmakers of Pakistan, belong to different parties, also do not receive any salary from the government.
