ISLAMABAD: Rawalpindi and Islamabad faced a deluge of heavy rain and hailstorms, while Murree and its surroundings were transformed by thundershowers and a picturesque blanket of snow.
Murree experienced its inaugural snowfall of the winter season, eliciting joy and relief among the public. The announcement of four holidays by the caretaker provincial government contributed to an influx of visitors, transforming the city into a winter wonderland.
The iconic Mall Road bustled with activity as tea and coffee shops became vibrant hubs for those savoring the enchantment of the snowfall. The scenic mountains of Naran, Kaghan, and adjacent areas were draped in a pristine white layer, leading to the closure of the road to Babusir Top, as confirmed by the Kaghan Development Authority.
Responding to the weather onslaught, authorities in Rawalpindi and Islamabad issued a high alert, mobilizing machinery to low-lying areas to mitigate potential impact, as reported by a spokesperson.
However, the Islamabad International Airport grappled with rainwater infiltrating through the roof, revealing a lapse in management. Airport staff were deployed to hastily collect water in makeshift containers.Â
