In an effort to combat the alarming levels of smog and air pollution Commissioner Lahore on Tuesday ordered to keep all business and educational activities closed in the city every Wednesday from tomorrow.
The decision was taken in a crucial meeting with a delegation of traders.
During the meeting, it was collectively decided to close schools, markets, government, and private institutions every Wednesday “until further notice”.
Effective immediately, Lahore will witness a full shutdown every Wednesday.
School administrations have been directed to ensure that staff members work from home on Wednesdays, allowing for a smoother transition to the new schedule.
Banks, private institutions, clubs, and hotels are also expected to adhere to the Wednesday shutdown.
This means schools, markets, government offices, and private institutions will remain closed. The decision is primarily aimed at reducing vehicular emissions and industrial activities on a designated day of the week to alleviate air pollution.
This significant decision came after Chief Minister Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, issued a directive to take immediate measures to tackle the worsening air quality in Lahore.
The metropolis has been grappling with hazardous levels of smog, causing health concerns and reduced visibility.
