‘Jaane Jaan’, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s much awaited streaming debut on Netflix is few days away from release.
Netflix has unveiled the first trailer of Jaane Jaan which is based on the bestselling Japenese mystery novel ‘The Devotion of Suspect X’. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, besides Kapoor, the film stars Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma in supporting roles.
The novel is also said to have served as inspiration for the blockbuster Malayalam language franchise Drishyam. In the movie, Kareena plays the role of Maya D’Souza who lives in the hill station of Kalimpong.
Maya appears to be in an abusive relationship, which her neighbour Naren has a hunch about. Naren is played in the film by Jaideep, and the trailer portrays him as a creepy stalker.

Vijay plays the cop Karan, who shows up in Kalimpong looking for Maya’s missing husband, and develops a romantic relationship with her.
While the original novel was told through the perspective of a clinical maths teacher who helped his neighbour cover up the murder of her husband, the movie seems to have been re-contextualised through the eyes of the main female character, with the maths teacher seemingly playing the killer.
Jaane Jaan is the latest in a string of high-profile Indian adaptations this year, after Rana Naidu (the remake of Ray Donovan), The Trial (a remake of The Good Wife), and Class (the Hindi adaptation of Élite). The movie is set to release on September 21, coinciding with Kapoor Khan’s birthday.
