ISLAMABAD: In another electric shock for the Karachi consumers, the power tariff is likely to be jacked up by Rs10.32 per unit.
As per details, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is likely to increase the power tariff for K-Electric consumers by Rs10.32/unit on account of three different fuel adjustments.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has sought the increase from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) in the context of fuel cost adjustment for October to December 2022-23, July to September 2022 and April to June.
Collectively the government has sought Rs10.32/unit rise from the NEPRA. The power regulator will hear the government’s plea on September 11.
Electricity rates have already gone up and even base tariff has touched Rs30 per unit, which stood at Rs16 per unit a few years ago.
It should be noted that protests against the high cost of energy from Karachi to Khyber have been led by individuals from all walks of life.
Jamaat-e-Islami made the decision on Sunday to organize protest sit-ins at each governor’s residence in response to exorbitant electricity costs.
If the government doesn’t lower electricity prices, we’ll hold sit-ins in front of governor houses in all four provinces and participate in a wheel-jam strike with traders and transportation companies, JI Ameer Sirajul Haq stated in a media interview.
He expressed gratitude to the traders and other participants for their assistance in a successful strike, noting that it sent a message to the past governments that the people would not accept their deals.
