A day after President Arif Alvi’s startling revelation about the signing of the Official Secrets (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill, 2023, the President’s Secretariat on Monday said that the services of Waqar Ahmed — secretary to the president — are no more required and are surrendered to the Establishment Division with immediate effect.

According to the statement, in view of the clear instructions of the Arif Alvi, the President’s House has returned the services of the Secretary to the Establishment Division.
In a letter addressed to the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, the President’s House has stated that there is no further need for the services of the Secretary to the President, Waqar Ahmad.

Therefore, the Establishment Division is instructed to take his services back. Humaira Ahmad, an officer of Grade 22 of the Pakistan Administrative Service, is to be appointed as the Secretary to the President.
According to sources, the current Prime Minister, Anwaarul Haq Kakar, is currently in Jaranwala. He will be informed about the letter upon his return and a decision will be made in this regard, later.
