European intelligence reports have made a shocking claim regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions in a series of reports.
According to a report published in 2023, the Islamic Republic of Iran is reportedly close to conducting a possible nuclear test and has been attempting to acquire ‘illegal technology’ for its active nuclear weapons program.
The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) was the first to publish translations of the mentioned intelligence documents on its website. The most alarming revelation in this intelligence data comes from the Netherlands General Intelligence and Security Service (AVID).
According to AVID, Iran is nearing the option of conducting nuclear experiments with weapons-grade uranium prepared at an accelerated pace for its weapons-making capability.
The Dutch intelligence report states, “Last year, Iran expanded its nuclear program. Iran is maintaining an increase in enriched uranium reserves from 20 to 60 percent. Central Fuges can be used to further increase this up to 90 percent, which is necessary for weaponizing a nuclear device.”
How close is Iran to nuclear power? AVID, in its contemporary report, has mentioned that “Iran is ignoring agreements made under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).”
The European reports primarily focus on Iran’s suspected illegal conduct in 2022.
The Swedish Security Service stated in its annual report in 2023, “Iran is involved in industrial espionage, targeting primarily Swedish high-tech industry and Swedish products which can be used in nuclear weapons programs.”
The Jerusalem Post referred to a 2023 report from Denmark’s National Security and Intelligence Service (PET), which stated that “International sanctions have been imposed on Iran due to its nuclear and missile program, human rights abuses, and the sale of weapons.
The Mossad estimates that Iranian facilities are trying to evade sanctions by procuring Danish products and technology through a third party, which could be used in Iran’s weapons production or military programs.”
Israeli Brigadier and senior researcher at the Israeli Defense and Security Forum, General Yossi Kuperwasser, told The Jerusalem Post that “Iran is determined to pursue its nuclear weapons program.”
