ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has sent fresh seasonal mangoes as gifts to her Pakistani counterpart Shehbaz Sharif.
The Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad handed over 1,500 kg of mangoes to a protocol officer of the Pakistan foreign ministry on Monday.
High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Pakistan Md. Ruhul Alam Siddique said the gift would add “a new dimension to the diplomatic relations between the two brotherly countries and will further accelerate the development of mutual bilateral relations.”
In recent years, as India’s relations with its neighbors in the South Asian region deteriorate, Pakistan and Bangladesh have made a push to build diplomatic, economic and cultural ties that could upend decades of historic arrangements in the region.
Last month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan exchanged pleasantries during their interaction marked by interesting remarks on the inauguration ceremony of the latter on Saturday.
The prime minister travelled to Turkiye to join the world leaders in the inauguration ceremony of President Erdogan. His spouse also joined the interaction. Both appreciated Pakistani mangoes.
During the interaction, Shehbaz presents a gift to the president and his wife as a token of appreciation. In a lighthearted moment, the prime minister humorously mentions that he has brought a gift of mangoes from Pakistan, saying that half of the mangoes are for the president and the other half is for the first lady.
