The final day of the Nelson Mandela Talent Hunt Program saw enormous number of players showing up for the trials. The scorching heat in Karachi could not deter the spirits of upcoming stars as the attendance on the last day was more than the first two days.
In comparison to the previous two days, the third day hosted a huge number of incredibly talented kids having the potential to be the next big superstars of Karachi cricket. The Nelson Mandela Talent Hunt Program, devised by Mr Majjid Bashir Ahmed, Honorary Counsel of South Africa in Karachi, is first of its kind initiative to provide equal opportunity for underprivileged kids of Karachi, running in full support from the South African High Commission in Pakistan.
Selectors were amazed to see the response on the final day as the turnout on the third day was massive than the first two days. “We got an amazing feedback throughout and it was apparent that a huge number of raw talent will be unearthed during the trials. On third day the turnout was more than the previous days as we got to see some amazingly talented kids. Nelson Mandela Talent Hunt Program provided an excellent opportunity for underprivileged kids who are often deprived of such chances”, said Head Selector Shadab Kabir.
Selector Tahir Khan added: “The first two days had mix talent but on the final day we saw some astonishing talent with two kids clocking 72 mph. Nelson Mandela Talent Hunt Program is an excellent initiative for those kids who don’t get opportunities very often and we have encountered some startling talent through it.”
In the next phase, 60 shortlisted players will be divided into four teams to compete in the matches leading to the selection of final 16. The final selected players will travel to South Africa to train with the best. Champions Trophy 2017 winning Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and gutsy batter Fawad Alam will be with the players as mentors to impart excellence in young lads.
