LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Pervaiz Elahi was re-arrested by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab in a corruption case, shortly after the Lahore court discharged him in an alleged graft case.
Earlier on Friday, Ghulam Murtaza Virk, Judicial Magistrate at anti-corruption court in Lahore, ordered his release as he announced the reserved verdict on a plea seeking Elahi’s physical remand.
“Parvez Elahi should be released if he is not wanted in any other case,” the verdict said.
Lahore court discharges Pervaiz Elahi in alleged graft case
A district court in Lahore has discharged PTI President Pervaiz Elahi in a corruption case, a day after he was arrested from outside his residence by officials of the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE).
Chaudhry Parvaiz Elahi was produced in the Lahore district court today in two cases registered in Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) wherein anti-graft watchdog sought 14-day physical remand.
Former CM spent the night at the headquarters of Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) and taken to court in an armored vehicle amid strict security measures.
During the hearing — presided by Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Murtaza — government counsel Ghulam Salahuddin asserted that the remand was required as further investigation was needed to be conducted from Elahi.
Meanwhile, Elahi’s counsel Advocate Rana Intizar argued that none of the “fake and bogus documents” that his client had allegedly prepared were presented to the court.
It is important to remember that Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former chief minister of Punjab, was detained outside his Zahoor Palace home in Lahore in connection with an alleged Rs 70 million corruption case involving the misappropriation of development funds intended for the Gujrat district.
However, the PTI leader was re-arrested by law enforcement authorities upon release in a corruption case registered against him in Gujranwala.

The PTI claims “fake cases” are being lodged against Elahi to force him to leave the party.
