KARACHI: A massive fire broke out at a plastic factory in Karachi’s SITE district on Monday, however, no loss of life was reported so far, rescue and police officials said.
SITE-B Station House Officer (SHO) Zawar Husain was quoted as saying in Dawn.com that the fire erupted on the third floor of the Sohail Plastic Factory at 9:15am.
He continued by saying that any employees still within the facility had been saved, and those at a nearby factory had also been evacuated in order to prevent any injuries or fatalities.
The SHO stated that the factory’s walls had crumbled and that the structure may have sustained “substantial damage” while noting that the fire had not yet been put out.
Azeem, a spokesman for the Edhi Foundation, added that no reports of fatalities or injuries had been made. with a formal statement, the rescue organisation stated that its ambulances and volunteers were on the scene to assist with rescue operations.
Detailing the preliminary report of the incident, Keamari District Commissioner Mukhtiar Abro said the reason for the fire was reported to be a short circuit.
He said that an inquiry was ongoing and a detailed report would be released after it was verified from the authorities concerned.
According to the fire department, they were notified of the incident at 9:37 a.m. It further stated that although the fire was being tended to by five fire tenders, two snorkels, and a water bowser, it had not yet been put out.
