The Public Presidency for the Affairs of the Haram Sharifeen is responsible for organizing the cleaning and perfuming of the carpets in the Haram Mosque around the clock. This involves disinfecting and perfuming two thousand carpets that are laid in Masjid Haram using precious perfumes.
Every week, over 1,200 carpets are cleaned at the laundry plant in Kadi, catering to the convenience of pilgrims. Furthermore, 2,000 carpets are supplied each week for the courtyards of Masjid Haram.
Jaber Al-Dawani, the Assistant Director General of Services Affairs at Masjid Haram, has stated that the Saudi government offers these unlimited services as a means to serve the pilgrims visiting Holy Ka’aba.
Special arrangements are made to wash and perfume the carpets inside Masjid Haram. The Laundry Plant is equipped with modern carpet cleaning equipment and utilizes advanced technology to clean the carpets.
Jaber Al-Dawani explained that the first stage of the cleaning process involves the use of high-quality technology to automatically remove dirt, dust, and wrinkles from the carpets. The second stage consists of an automatic cleaning process that utilizes disinfectants, water, and special detergents. Finally, the carpets are rinsed with water once again.
After being washed with water, the carpets are placed in special tubes to dry. The fourth and final step involves laying the carpets under the sun and fresh air. Once dry, the carpets are cleaned with a special modern broom before the process of disinfection and perfuming with natural rose water begins.
He added that the cleaning plant can wash up to 240 meters of carpet per hour, after which they are stored in special warehouses for safekeeping. Currently, there are 26,000 carpets stored in the warehouse, all ready to be delivered to Masjid Haram.
