KARACHI: President of PTI Sindh Chapter Ali Zaidi was remanded in police custody by Judicial Magistrate Malir for three days on Monday.
The former federal minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh chapter president Ali Haider Zaidi was arrested last week on charges of fraud. A case was registered against him at Ibrahim Hyderi police station in Karachi, after a complaint was filed by a property dealer, Fazal Elahi.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Zaidi had allegedly taken a loan of Rs180 million from Elahi in 2013, and gave him the papers of a property valued at Rs16.7 million as surety, promising to pay the remaining Rs12.5 million in six months.
Zaidi was brought to the court from Gadap police station in an armored vehicle. A large number of PTI workers reached the Malir court to show solidarity with him.
The FIR was registered under Sections 34, 506, 420, 471, and 468 of the Pakistan Penal Code, for acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention, punishment for criminal intimidation, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, using as genuine a forged document, and forgery for the purpose of cheating.
During the hearing, Zaidi denied recognizing Elahi or ever meeting him. He produced his travelling documents in the court, showing that he was abroad at the time when he was accused of committing the crime. He also requested the court to discharge the case for being false in nature.

However, the court reserved the verdict and later announced a decision to grant physical remand Ali Zaidi for three days, rejecting Zaidi’s plea for dismissal of the case under Section 63 of the Criminal Code.
