LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued interim order, summoning head of Toshakhana in personal capacity on Thursday (tomorrow Feb 23) with sealed record.
Justice Asim Hafeez of the LHC issued interim order on a petition seeking details of the Toshakhana gifts to look if the exemption claim was legally correct or not.
The court directed the government lawyer to send a copy of its order to the Toshakhana department head for the implementation of the court directive.
During the hearing, the government’s lawyer apprised the court of prime minister’s move to form a committee to chalk out a new Toshakhana policy. He further said that the committee has formulated recommendations for the next cabinet meeting.
The court said that in compliance with the court order, the section officer had submitted sealed record.
Yesterday, it may be recalled, the federal government submitted details of Toshakhana gifts to the Lahore High Court while the deputy attorney general told the court that the information was “classified” saying that the public disclosure of Toshakhana gifts might damage country’s foreign relations.
Interestingly, the ruling coalition partners in the federal government led by Shehbaz Sharif missed not a single opportunity or left any stone unturned to bash PTI Chairman Imran Khan for retaining Toshakhana gifts from Saudi Arabia and selling the same, allegedly, at throw-away prices.
