LAHORE: Senior leadership within Pakistan Muslim League-N (PMLN) is reported to be in a state of quite discomfort after its leader Maryam Nawaz has been appointed as senior vice president and chief organizer of the party.
This came after a wave of criticism emerged over the continuation of dynastic politics in the ranks of traditional political parties for preferring their own bloodline over other hardcore workers. Imran Khan, it may be added here, had been a very strong critic of the dynastic politics and had been even urging upon political leaders in his opposition’s ranks to raise voice against the practice.
Multiple media reports quoted sources from within the PML-N as criticizing lack of consultation prior to making this appointment, which made Maryam Nawaz the third most powerful figure in the party after her father Nawaz Sharif and uncle Shehbaz Sharif.
Reports suggest that several senior party leaders are upset with this appointment.
Maryam Nawaz, acquitted recently by Islamabad High Court in Avenfield and other cases, was made Senior Vice President and Chief Organizer by way of a notification issued on Jan 3. Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb shared the party notification on Twitter.

It is pertinent to mention here that in the light of Supreme Court’s decision, Nawaz Sharif cannot hold any office in the PML-N’s hierarchy for being disqualified for life as a result of Panama Case verdict, however, he continues to be the party’s supreme leader.
“This decision is undemocratic and is aimed at furthering the Sharifs’ political dynasty,” a senior PMLN leader was quoted by local media as saying.
