MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially inaugurated the Serbian Gas Field, a gas supply project to China.
Russia is supplying gas to China through Siberia, after which the supply of gas to China will increase.
Russia’s largest gas supply project has been launched in the eastern part of Russia, while Russia has begun work on making gas exports to the east rather than Europe.
The opening of the Serbian gas field will increase the gas supply to China, making it the largest gas supply project in eastern Russia.
Russian LNG sales in November doubled from a year ago to 852,000 tonnes, despite a 5.4 percent drop in China’s total purchases of the supercooled fuel.
Total Russian energy purchases, including oil products, reached $8 billion in November, up from $7.8 billion in the previous month. Those purchases total $68 billion since the war in Ukraine began, up from $41 billion in the same period last year.
Oil imports from Russia rose 17 percent from a year earlier to 7.81 million tonnes in November, the highest since August, with Russia overtaking Saudi Arabia, China’s biggest supplier.
