KARACHI: Pakistan’s first transgender in the banking sector, Haya Khan, was fired by the private bank when its management came to know that she was not a male but a transgender.
MM News contacted Haya Khan to find out the facts in this regard and invited her to its program. Haya Khan said that when she was recruited in the bank in 2014, she was recruited as a male, because at that time the law of transgender identity was not made, so she had to write male in her documents, thought she was a transgender.
“With the passage of time the changes in my body continued to happen, then gradually the bank management realized that I am a transgender, at first, they doubted, but then they were convinced, I worked in the bank for 7 years and when the management found out that I am a transgender, they terminated my job,” she said.
“They fired me during the corona lockdown, so that I could not take any legal action as the courts were closed. My post was ANL analyst, I have done many banking courses along with graduation,” she added.
Haya said that after she was fired from the bank job, no NGO contacted her or helped her. “I didn’t know anything about the intention of bank management regard termination my job, employees’ bonus was due and like everyone I was also happy, but all’s bonus was announced except me, when I asked my boss, he did not give any answer and said that HR will tell you,” Haya added.
After that, in the meeting room, the HR people forced me to resign but I refused, on this they manhandle and pushed me out of the bank, she told MM News and added that after that she approached the court.
“The case is in the court, so far I have achieved a significant success in the case and I am fully hopeful that the court verdict will be in my favor,” she said.
Haya further said that society’s attitude towards transgenders is not good. “It is a pity that even educated people also not respect us, we want the provision of job opportunities, so that we can earn and live with respect and dignity,” she concluded.
