ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi has approved summary, sent to him by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the appointment of former JUI-F senator Haji Ghulam Ali as new governor of Khyber-Pakhtunkwa. Haji Ghulam Ali is the father-in-law of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s daughter.
Earlier, PM Shehbaz Sharif sent a summary to President Arif Alvi on Wednesday, asking to appoint Haji Ghulam Ali as the new Governor of the province.
It may be recalled that the post of Governor KP had fallen vacant when PTI leader Shah Farman stepped down soon after Shehbaz Sharif was sworn in as the prime minister in April this year.
The province of KP is yet to get a governor eight months after the resignation of Shah Farman as KP Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani continues to serve as acting governor. For the last about eight months, the coalition partners of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) failed to reach consensus over the appointment of governor of the province, having strategic importance.
Despite several demands by ruling coalition partner ANP, parties gathered under the umbrella of PDM had recently agreed on the name of JUI-F leader Haji Ghulam Ali in a meeting.
