LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to return the passport of PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz, seized by the NAB in a corruption case.
A three-member bench of the LHC headed by Chief Justice, Muhammad Ameer Bhatti heard the Maryam Nawaz’s plea.
In his argument, Maryam Nawaz’s counsel Amjad Pervez stated that Maryam Nawaz’s current plea is different from her earlier plea in which she had requested the court to allow her to go abroad to see her ailing father.
Maryam Nawaz had given up her passport at the court’s order, and for the past four years, her fundamental human rights have been infringed because the previous administration refused to file a challan in the case.
The challan for the case must be filed in court within 14 days after my client was detained for 48 hours, Mr. Pervez added.
The attorney for the NAB stated that since they did not require more inquiry from the PML-N leader, therefore, they had no objections to Maryam Nawaz receiving her passport back.
The court after hearing arguments from both the sides, ordered NAB to return Maryam Nawaz’s passport.
In this case, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has already provided its response.
The NAB stated in a response provided on September 27 that it had no issues with PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz receiving her passport back.
In a brief response given to the LHC, the NAB stated that it had no objections to the PML-N leader receiving his passport back and noted that the accused was still facing criminal charges.
