Samsung Electronics Co (005930.KS) suffered a cybersecurity breach in late July that exposed personal information of some customers in the United States, the company said.
Customers’ social security numbers and credit card numbers were not affected, but information including name, contact and demographic details, date of birth and product registration data was compromised, Samsung said.
It was not immediately clear how many customers were affected. Samsung did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
“In late July 2022, an unauthorized third party acquired information from some of Samsung’s U.S. systems,” the company said.

Instagram is soliciting feedback from its users as it works to enhance its algorithm in an effort to catch up to TikTok.
Users of the social media platform, which is owned by Meta Platforms Inc., may now choose multiple items at once and mark them as “not interesting” on the Explore tab, which is the area of the app where users can find material and accounts they aren’t already following. A user could only mark one post at a time as irrelevant in the past.
