CAPETOWN: South Africa has announced the 16-man squad for the five-match T20I series in India beginning 9 June.
21-year-old batter Tristan Stubbs has been included after impressive performances in the Cricket South Africa T20 Challenge. Playing for the Gbets Warriors, he scored 293 runs in seven innings at a solid average of 48.83 and a strike rate of 183.12.
He also toured Zimbabwe as a part of South Africa ‘A’ team and was called up by the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022 as a replacement for the injured Tymal Mills.
A surprise addition to the list is 32-year-old Wayne Parnell, who is returning to the T20I format after a gap of five years. Parnell last played in a T20I series against England in June 2017.
Also returning to the squad are fast bowler Anrich Nortje, who was recovering from a persistent hip injury since December 2021, and batters Heinrich Klaasen and Reeza Hendricks.
The rest of the squad is made up of the usual suspects and will be led by Temba Bavuma. This is will be South Africa’s first T20I series since the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup last year.
