BAREILLY: A criminal case has been lodged against two teenaged Muslim boys for “listening to Pakistani songs” in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
According to local media, the two cousins, Naeem and Mustkim, aged 16 and 17, landed in trouble and were detained by police following a complaint by a local resident. The teenagers run a grocery store in Singhai Murwan, Bareilly district, where the song was being played.
Indian media reported that some villagers were displeased over the songs with ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ (Long Live Pakistan) lyrics after which they approached police seeking their arrest.
A video of the boys listening to the songs, which was recorded by the complainant, soon went viral on social media. in which a shopkeeper can be seen listening to “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans. After the video made the rounds on the internet, locals and some BJP leaders protested against the shopkeeper for listening to pro-Pakistan music.
Their cousin, who requested that he not be named, told an Indian media oultet that they played the songs without realising the consequences. Police authorities said an investigation is underway and additional action will be taken in the future. Locals were outraged after the video went viral on social media.
