LONDON: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), has announced the suspension of Jason Roy for one year and also fined him £2,500, in a statement released officially. It read that Roy was banned for a year which was suspended and depended upon good behavior.
The 31-year-old cricketer recently pulled out of the upcoming 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) where he was set to play for the new franchise Gujarat Titans. He cited the fatigue of staying in bio-bubbles and instead took an indefinite break from cricket altogether to spend time with his family at home.
Roy, played in the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2022) for Quetta Gladiators before he was scheduled to fly to India and link up with his franchise which is captained by India all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
The ECB in their statement didn’t specify in detail or made public the nature of the incident for which Jason Roy was punished over. Roy was last in international action during England’s 3-2 T20I series defeat to the West Indies in January, with his tally of 130 runs including a top-score of 52 in the fourth match.
The Cricket Discipline Commission also said Roy would pay a fine of £2,500 by the end of March. It is, as yet, unclear what the matter pertains to.
The ECB statement read: “A Disciplinary Panel of the Cricket Discipline Commission has announced its sanction on Jason Roy after he admitted a charge of conducting himself in a manner which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the game of cricket, the ECB and himself into disrepute.”
