Ramzan, which is known as the month of restraint, tolerance, patience and charity, since few years has become a season for profit-seeking television enterprises to sell religion in the name of the holy month to get high ratings and make good money.
The first thing that comes to mind when we hear about this holy month approaching is the Ramzan transmissions associated with it. Like the last couple of years, this time too, every channel is successfully carrying out its Ramzan transmission followed by game shows after Iftar.
However, this year, the Ministry Of Religious Affairs’ has proposed to ban game shows during Ramzan transmission, just a few days before the holy month begins.

With six strict guidelines, the Ministry has issued a letter with six guidelines over broadcasting Ramzan transmission. The guidelines are constructed after observing the previous years when the transmissions have spread a lot of entertainment in masses which are as follows:
1) Promoting religious and professional harmony in society should be the top priority of Ramzan broadcasting.
2) Controversial issues in Ramzan broadcasting, the professional discussion should be avoided as much as possible.
3) Hosts of Ramzan broadcasts should be equipped with the necessary religious knowledge.
4) The dress code of the hosts and guests should be in accordance with the sanctity of the month of Ramzan.
5) Respect for saints/believers should be kept in mind.
6) Avoid airing game shows and other non-serious programs during Sahar and Iftar. Also, during the month of Ramzan, immoral, inappropriate advertisements and programs should be banned. Appropriate instructions should be issued to the Ministry of Information, PEMRA/TV channels.
