PESHAWAR: A ‘faith healer’ in Peshawar hammered a nail into a pregnant woman’s head after her husband desired for a male offspring, said police officials on Tuesday.
The woman was moved to Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital, where doctors confirmed that she was pregnant and had suffered a severe head injury. The one-and-a-half-inch nail was surgically removed from her head.
LHR Resident Neurosurgeon Dr Haider Suleman told reporters that the woman was brought to the hospital a few days ago, with blood oozing from her head. He further stated that the woman claimed she wanted a son because her husband did not like daughters which is why she went to the peer.
Images and X-ray film shared by the surgeon showed a steel nail lodged into the woman’s head just above the forehead. It had been completely hammered in and only the cap was left outside.
Last week, a woman was strangled to death by her father-in-law over a domestic dispute on Saturday. Reportedly, the suspect Ikram had an altercation with his daughter-in-law Aqsa Bibi in Chak No. 434 GB area.
During the quarrel, the suspect Ikram got infuriated and grabbed the victim’s neck strangling her with a rope. Aqsa died on the spot. The suspect reportedly fled from the scene after killing his daughter-in-law.
