ISLAMABAD: Pakistan recorded another 7,586 COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the second-highest number of cases in a single day since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported 7,586 cases and 20 deaths in the previous 24-hour period. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has reached 1,367,605 while the death toll stands at 29,097.
The positivity ratio was reached a new record of 13 percent. The number of active cases has surged to 70,263 after the recent cases. There were 58,334 tests conducted in the previous day leading to new cases.
There are 1,083 people who still remain in critical condition including 28 new patients in the previous day. Overall 1,268,245 people have recovered from the virus, including 647 in the past day.
Sindh has recorded the highest number of cases and remains the worst affected region. The province has recorded 523,774 cases and 7,738 deaths while there are 41,681 active cases.
Punjab has recorded 462,323 cases and 13,105 deaths, while the number of active cases in the province has risen to 17,251. Islamabad has recorded 117,436 cases and 976 deaths while there are 6,9439 active cases in the federal capital.
The number of cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands at 183,865 and 5,969 deaths, while Balochistan has reported 33,855 cases and 367 deaths. Gilgit Baltistan has recorded 10,489 cases and 187 deaths while Azad Kashmir has recorded 35,218 cases and 750 deaths.
A day earlier, NCOC revised COVID-19 protocols and announced that only fully vaccinated people will be allowed to pray in mosques. It also announced that all schools with a high COVID-19 positivity ratio would remain closed for one week across the country.
