CNG stations across Sindh including Karachi have been closed for two and a half months from today due to disruption in gas supply.
According to details, the gas supply to CNG and RLNG stations in Sindh will be cut off from December 1 to February 15, 2022. As the cold weather intensified, the gas crisis intensified. The decision to suspend gas supply came under the Load Management Plan.
Officials said that gas supplies to non-export industries have already been cut off, while CNG and RLNG stations will also be shut off from December 1 to February 15, but zero-rated industries, including Capto Power Plants, will be shut down and gas supply is restored.
SSGC officials said that the gas supply had to be suspended due to the huge gap between supply and demand. Under the load management plan, priority is being given to meet the needs of domestic consumers in winter. Gas supply to CNG stations will be cut off, the statement added.
It may be recalled that earlier the SSGC had stopped supplying gas to non-exported captive power plants generating electricity from gas in Sindh and Balochistan with a view to ensure uninterrupted supply of gas to domestic consumers in both the provinces.
This week, Sui Southern cut off the gas supply to captive power plants of non-export industries. A spokesman for the SSGC said the move was taken under the government’s Gas Load Management Priority Order.
Demand for this specialty has grown significantly as a result of recent corporate scandals. Gas load shedding is also going on in different cities of the country especially in Karachi. The Oil and Gas Management Authority (OGRA) will hear a proposal for a 150% increase in gas prices today.
