LAHORE: Presidential election of the largest board of Pakistani seminaries, Wafaqul Madaras Al-Arabia Pakistan, is going to be held today after a long wait. Prominent Religious Scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani is the strongest candidate for the post.
As per details, after the demise of the former president of the board, Dr. Abdul Razaq Iskander, some three months ago, the post is vacant. Although the constitution of the board allows more than one candidate to contest for the post, so for it has been remaining a tradition that the name of a high profile and respected religious scholar is presented and all relevant persons express their confidence over the name and select him unopposed.
This time the same traditional way of election is expected and most of the related religious scholars are in favor of Mufti Taqi Usmani, however, some scholars think that Maulana Anwarul Haq is the best choice for the post. Maulana Haq is the incumbent senior vice president of the board.
According to reliable sources, there is fewer chances for Maulana Haq to become president, while being a prominent religious scholar in the country as well as in the world and vice president of the famous seminary, Darul Uloom Karachi, Mufti Usmani is the strongest choice for the post.
A Meeting of the board is going to be held today and the participant’s Ulema will try to elect the Mufti Usmani unopposed. The result will come till today evening.
