ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reported 3,800 coronavirus cases and 66 deaths on Monday as the government tightens restrictions in several parts of the country.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the national tally of coronavirus cases has reached 1,156,281 while the death toll stands at 25,670. The positivity ratio was recorded at 6.75% across the country.
There were 56,279 tests conducted in the previous day leading to new cases. The number of active cases in the country surged to 93,690 as the government imposes new restrictions on unvaccinated citizens. There are 5,612 people who remain in critical condition. Overall 1,036,921 people have recovered from the virus, including 3,548 in the past day.
Sindh has recorded the highest number of cases and remains the worst affected region. The province has recorded 430,594 cases and 6,834 deaths while the number of active cases has reached 50,778.
Punjab has recorded 391,297 cases and 11,823 deaths, while the number of active cases in the province has reached 25,203. Islamabad has recorded 98,951 cases and 863 deaths while there are 5,843 active cases in the federal capital.
The number of cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands at 161,381 and 4,944 deaths while Balochistan has recorded 32,200 cases and 338 deaths. Gilgit Baltistan had recorded 9,870 cases and 173 deaths while Azad Kashmir has recorded 31,988 cases and 695 deaths.
Restrictions expanded
The NCOC announced to expand the current coronavirus restrictions to 27 cities of the country in an attempt to control the coronavirus situation.
The NCOC said that considering the situation, the implementation of the SOPs has been extended to 27 cities of the country. They were previously only applicable to 13 cities.
All commercial activities except essential services will be closed by 8PM. There will be two safe days each week, which means that markets will remain closed twice a week. However, it will be up to the provinces to decide which days would be considered safe days.
Indoor dining will remain banned across the country, while outdoor dining will only be allowed until 10PM each day. Meanwhile, restaurant takeaway and delivery services will continue to operate round the clock.
Indoor weddings will be completely banned, while outdoor wedding events will be allowed with a maximum limit of 300 guests and will have to be end by 10PM.
Shrines and cinema halls will remain closed while indoor gyms will remain open to only fully vaccinated individuals. The NCOC said educational institutions will operate at a 50% capacity thrice a week. The body said that it will review the SOPs on September 13.
