ISLAMABAD: PML-N’s spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb has strongly criticized election reforms introduced by Prime Minister Imran Khan and the proposed Pakistan Media Development Authority (PMDA), terming it ‘black laws’.
“This government is now preparing to pass the black law of PMDA but even then it will not be able to conceal its incompetence and ineligibility,” the PML-N spokesperson said in a statement issued today (Monday).
Marriyum Aurangzeb claimed that the development of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) was aimed at election rigging, while the proposed authority ‘is a way to cover this deception’.
“We reject the EVMs and PMDA as they are both unconstitutional,” she added. Marriyum further stated that the PML-N would not let anyone deprive the people of their right to vote or their freedom of expression.
Referring to Prime Minister Imran Khan, the PML-N spokesperson said the one who cites the examples of West turned out to be ‘the worst dictator’ in terms of constitutional rights and civil liberties.
“Imran Khan Mafia Private Limited Company wants that corruption keeps happening under their patronage and no one exposes them. They want to ruin the economy by robbing the citizens in the name of sugar flour and other utilities,” she concluded.
Earlier this week, the Prime Minister invited the opposition to hold talks with the government on electoral reforms after it decided in principle to use EVMs in the next general elections in 2023.
“The prime minister has categorically told the cabinet that all stakeholders should be consulted for finalising electoral reforms as the use of EVMs is imperative for holding free, fair, transparent and dispute-free elections. The cabinet was also told that a final decision on the use of EVMs in next elections would be made within the next fortnight,” Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had said at a press conference.
