ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday announced that the 720 KW Karot Hydroelectric power plant had become operational.
Took to Twitter, he said that 720 MW of power had been included in the national grid after the Karot Hydroelectric power started working. The power plant is a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
The PM said that no significant progress was made on the construction of the Karot power plant in the four years era of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government. The Premier thanked China for its cooperation in the construction of the Karot power plant.
The news has come at a time when the energy crisis in the country is deepening with every passing day. The PML-N-led government, despite its claims to curb the crisis, has been unable to fill the power demand and supply gap.
Earlier today, the PM chaired a meeting regarding power outages and declared that the coalition government would control load-shedding, though it is a difficult challenge.
