A further 70 people on the quarantined Diamond Princes cruise ship in Japan have tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases to 355.
Japanese Health Minister Katsunobu Kato informed today (Sunday) about the increase in the number of cases.
He said, “So far we have conducted tests for 1,219 individuals, of those 355 people tested positive and 73 individuals are not showing symptoms.”
The Japanese Health Minister said, “We will make the people feel at ease by providing information in a timely manner, and continue to take all-out measures.”
The Diamond Princess cruise ship has been quarantined since arriving in Yokohama, on February 3, after a man who disembarked in Hong Kong before it traveled to Japan was diagnosed with the coronavirus.
The United States, Canada, and Hong Kong are sending aircraft to Japan to bring back their citizens on board the ship.
The US Embassy in Tokyo said all passengers would be screened before being allowed to board the chartered flights and everyone would be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival back in the US, adding that no infected passengers would be allowed to board.
