PESHAWAR: At least 52 suspects were rounded up in an anti-narcotics operation in Swabi city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
District Police Officer (DPO) Swabi had issued the directives to take strict action against drug peddlers and those possessing narcotics. Consequently, the Elite Force conducted an operation in several areas of the city under the supervision of DSP Circle Topi Iftikhar Ali and SHO Inspector Jawad Khan.
During the strip and search operations, police recovered 4.08 grams of cannabis from a suspect named Abdul Hamid while a pistol and five rounds of ammunition were confiscated from his possession.
Police also seized 2.05 grams of cannabis from the motorcycle seat of a suspect named Bakram Khan, while several rounds of a Kalashnikov ammunition were confiscated from a man named Ibrahim.
Nine other accomplices were arrested in subsequent raids while three others were arrested for illegal residency. 47 others have arrested on suspicions of possessing drugs or weapons while police is checking their records to arrest them.
The suspects under custody will only be released after they are verified and cleared. However, cases will be lodged against those possessing narcotics or illegal weapons. Police said the operation will continue to nab the criminals.
