KARACHI: The body of a five-year-old girl was found in a garbage can in Karachi’s Essa Nagri neighbourhood, the police said today (Sunday).
According to details, the body was found abandoned inside a gunny bag on an empty plot in Gulshan-e-Iqbal’s Pir Bukhari Colony.
A police spokesperson has informed that the body was in the appalling condition as the girl might have been set ablaze. “There are torture marks on the five-year-old’s body,” he added.
The district police have been shifted to Jinnah hospital for a post-mortem examination. The girl was identified as Marwa, who had been missing from PIB Colony.
Initial medical reports stated that the girl had a head injury which apparently led to her death with her face burned. The police spokesperson informed that she might have also been subjected to sexual assault.
The victim’s father has informed that she left the house to buy something from a nearby vendor on Friday morning but never returned home. An FIR of her missing was registered at the relevant police station on her father’s complaint.
Meanwhile, the district police have arrested a man living in the neighbourhood over suspicion of abduction and murder. The suspect is being interrogated in police custody.
The residents of the area along with the victim’s relative also staged a protest on University Road where protesters blocked the road from Jail Chowrangi to Civic Centre.
