RAWALPINDI: The 49th of Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz Shaheed (Nishan-e-Haider) is being observed today.
In this regard, DG ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar paid homage to Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz Shaheed. ISPR chief Major General Babar Iftikhar said that the courage of the safe martyr Nishan Haider is a great example for those who defend the beloved homeland. He has said that our martyrs are our heroes.

DG ISPR said that the nation salutes Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz Shaheed on the great sacrifice. Lance Naik Mehfooz was born on 25th October 1944 in the village of Pind Malik in Rawalpindi district.
During the 1971 war, Lance Naik Mehfooz Shaheed’s company was stationed in Wagah Attari Sector. Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz Shaheed belonged to the 15th Punjab Regiment of the Pakistan Army.
Although his machine gun was destroyed by an enemy shell, Muhammad Mahfuz advanced towards an enemy bunker whose automatic fire had inflicted heavy casualties.
During the attack, a bomb exploded near Mehfooz Shaheed in which he got badly injured and his machine-gun became out of order.

He crawled into a nearby trench of a shaheed firer and got hold of his to machine-gun and started firing. Meanwhile, he noticed that an enemy machine-gun was effectively engaging his own troops. Muhammad Mehfooz crawled towards the enemy trench and on reaching within 10 yards charged on it. He caught the enemy firer by his neck and pushed him to death.
On 23rd March 1972, the Pakistan Government in recognition of the bravery of Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz Shaheed, awarded him with the top military award ‘Nishan-e-Haider.’
