India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced the temporary suspension of civilian flight operations at 32 airports located across the northern and western regions of the country.
According to an official release, the closure will remain in effect until 5:29 AM on May 15, 2025, citing operational requirements.
The list of airports include- Adhampur, Ambala, Amritsar, Awantipur, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Halwara, Hindon, Jaisalmer, Jammu, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kandla, Kangra (Gaggal), Keshod, Kishangarh, Kullu Manali (Bhuntar), Leh, Ludhiana, Mundra, Naliya, Pathankot, Patiala, Porbandar, Rajkot (Hirasar), Sarsawa, Shimla, Srinagar, Thoise, and Uttarlai.
Initially, 24 airports near the Pakistan border or in proximity to key Indian defense installations were closed to civilian air traffic until May 10. This restriction has now been extended and expanded to include additional facilities. The Airports Authority of India (AAI), in coordination with other aviation bodies, has issued multiple Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) formalizing the extended closure, which covers the period from May 9 to May 14.
The development comes amid heightened regional tensions following Pakistan’s launch of a major military campaign, Operation Bunyan ul Marsoos, in response to what it described as repeated Indian provocations.
