Three children were killed and three others got injured on Saturday when an SUV ran over them during Eid celebrations in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Ghanche district, a rescue official said.
“Six children were celebrating Eidul Fitr dressed in new clothes on a road in Barah Bala village when a Skardu-bound Toyota Land Cruiser crushed them, killing three on the spot and injuring the rest,” Rescue 1122 in-charge for Ghanche district Ashiq Hussain was quoting as saying in Dawn.com.
Locals claimed that the kids had gone to a local store before being struck by the erratic car.
Hussain claimed that while the rescue crew gave the injured their basic medical attention and subsequently transported them to the District Headquarters Hospital Ghanche for treatment, the police apprehended the car’s driver and opened an inquiry.
He said the situation of one injured child was critical.
Three persons were killed and 18 injured last month when a passenger coaster headed for Skardu from Rawalpindi crashed into a gully on the Karakorum Highway close to Chilas in the Diamer area.
