KARACHI: At least 780 people lost lives and and 9,725 citizens injured in traffic accidents across the Metropolis in the year 2022. Besides these, a total of 540 were killed and 2,465 people wounded in different firing incidents in the metropolis. Besides these, over 500 women and girls were subjected to sexual assault in the Karachi alone in 2022.
According to data released by Edhi foundation at the end of the year 2022, 260 people perished due to drowning in rivers and nullahs, on the other hand, 124 citizens lost their lives due to electrocution.
Furthermore, 220 tortured bodies and 290 bodies of newborns were found in different areas of Karachi.
It may be mentioned here that Karachi witnessed record-breaking rain spells this year, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people.

Meanwhile, the figures compiled with the help of records of medico-legal officers posted at three major Karachi hospitals, the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) and Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) revealed that over 500 women and girls were subjected to sexual assault in the Pakistan city of Karachi alone in 2022.
Reports suggest there has been a considerable increase in the number of rape and murder cases in Karachi, considered to the most populous in the country. Incidents of shooting have also increased, according to data maintained by Karachi’s Police Surgeon Office.
Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed was quoted as saying that in 2022, 513 women were sexually assaulted while 3,649 women became victims of domestic violence. They were brought to the hospitals for medical examination.
